Horse Butte

The Horse Butte loop trail is a fun loop trail to ride during the fall, mild winter months, and spring. Most of this trail could be considered a "green" difficulty, though there are some sections where nearly every rider will need to "hike-a-bike" up (or down, depending on direction) a very technical rocky slope.
Lacking tree cover, the Eastern side of this loop features wide open views of the Cascade Mountains, and the wonderful smell of wild lavender.
This trail isn’t just named after Horse Butte for fun. The trail and surrounding area are popular spots for horseback riding. Be on the lookout for fresh horse tracks and keep your head up. Always defer right of way to the horses.
Most people will access this trail either from Horse Butte or the Boyd Cave day use area.
